The compounding stress from the never-ending workday can be overwhelming. It can hurt relationships, health and overall happiness.
Here are some ways I balance my work and life:
- TAKE BREAKS
Stepping away for a few moments allows me to not become overwhelmed. There’s no shame in taking a break. It simply means, you value your mindset as you do work. - GET ENOUGH SLEEP
When I’m feeling overwhelmed, I try to prioritize getting in bed early enough to get adequate sleep. It seems elementary, but makes all the difference when you head to work the next day. - JUST SAY NO
It’s important not to take on additional tasks or duties that you know you can’t accomplish. I have no shame is telling someone no when I know I’m being pushed beyond my breaking point. That also includes me limiting my time-wasting activities and people. - Unplug
There are times when I just shut my phone off and enjoy the moment or go to one of favorite places to unwind such as the beach or a look out point here on the island just to take in the fresh Caribbean breeze and scenery. - Exercise
Exercise is an effective stress reducer. It pumps feel-good endorphins through your body. It helps lift your mood and can even serve a one-two punch by also putting you in a meditative state. I enjoy walking, it helps me to clear my mind and get grounded again. - Spending Time with God
I enjoy listening and singing gospel music also listening and meditating on the Word of God.
