I choose to stay focus, in a world where distractions are so common and dreams seem to be forgotten in this most overwhelming information age. To God be the glory for the great things he has done! Anyone who truly knows me, know that it has been a long heart’s desire of mine to one day be a proud homeowner. I calculated how much money I was throwing away each month for rent and the number was astronomical. Thus, I made the decision about 3 years ago to move back home to save money to purchase or build my own house. I’ve had many set backs, but I never lost focus of my dreams. During my time of waiting and wanting to buy a house, I sowed financial seeds into helping others purchase or maintain their houses. I remember giving away my entire savings account (3) times after hearing from God to bless others who were in desperate need at that time. It was not easy because the money I sowed, was the money I was saving to one day purchase a house for myself. Nevertheless I knew my seed would meet any need and it was just a matter of time before I got my harvest!
I worked hard on creating and sticking to a tight budget, repairing my credit, cutting back on unnecessary spending and saving money in separate saving accounts dedicated just for my new house. I established an account for: down payment and closing costs; furnisher/appliances; raining day account just for the house (extra mortgage payment, leaks/repairs etc.).
But prior to all of this, I stood on what has now become one of favorite scriptures, Joshua 1:3, “Every place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that have I given unto you, as I said unto Moses.” I literally took that scripture to heart and meditated on it daily. My faith was so radical that I even walked barefooted on the empty house lot declaring it out loud! I didn’t care who saw or heard me. I remember watching Minister Gloria Copeland on TV one day as she talked about how impoverished she and her husband was and how she stood on the same scripture to purchase their first house. I told myself if God will do it for them, he will do it for me… a single mother, with bad credit, one income, no real savings, but a child of the most high God with a great heart’s desire to be a homeowner.
When family and friends were going on vacations every major holiday, eating out daily, getting their hair and nails done, purchasing clothes or other things they didn’t really need; I was busy preparing my lunches to take to work (often times just a sandwich), doing my own hair, increasing the balances in my savings accounts, and writing creditors / credit bureaus to fix my credit and pay off old credit card and medical debts. I also drew out the split floor plans that I wanted for my house and purchased a notebook dedicated to writing down how I would accomplish my goals of purchasing a house. I educated myself in the home buying process and watched more episodes of HGTV and YouTube than I would like to admit… lol. Also, I created several boards on Pintrest with the visions I have for my new home. I even started a mini-garden with some of my favorite plants and flowers so I can plant them once my home is completed this year.
As I am nearly the end of the fruition of my labor, I continue to stay focus and set new goals for myself. I want my daughter, who is now about to embark on her first year of college to know that with God, all things are possible. I don’t know what the future may hold, but I don’t have to because I serve a God that knows the end from the beginning and I know that he would never leave nor forsake me.
Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. – Psalm 37:4
